In a landmark collaboration, Voith Hydro, ELIN Motoren, and Sintaksa have successfully supported the modernization of the Shkopeti hydropower station, significantly enhancing its performance and contributing to Albania’s sustainable energy future. The project, distinguished by cutting-edge technology and meticulous planning, has exceeded customer expectations by achieving a remarkable 13% increase in the station’s performance.
The modernization project involved integrating Kaplan turbines with a new hydraulic design, a customized foundation frame for the synchronous generator to maximize power output, and dedicated electrical equipment. This comprehensive upgrade ensures the Shkopeti hydropower station operates at peak efficiency, bolstering Albania’s renewable energy supply.

- Adaptation to Existing Conditions and Restrictions
The synchronous generator’s foundation frame was meticulously customized to fit the existing concrete structures, ensuring stability and proper alignment during operation. This adaptation is crucial for mitigating vibrations and extending the generator’s lifespan. Additionally, the cooling system was upgraded and integrated with existing systems, maintaining optimal operating temperatures to prevent overheating and improve performance and reliability.
- Delivery in Sections Due to Weight Restrictions
Addressing logistical challenges, the generator was delivered in sections after thorough testing at the ELIN workshop. This modular approach facilitated transportation and simplified on-site assembly. Notably, the design includes split shafts, further enhancing the efficiency of the installation process.
- On-site Assembly Supervised by Experienced Technicians
Two seasoned ELIN Motoren technicians expertly oversaw the on-site assembly, ensuring adherence to all technical specifications and safety standards. The high degree of prefabrication and testing, combined with the skilled on-site team, enabled the project to be commissioned on time and handed over to the owner according to the project schedule.
